Artist statement
My fascination with the power of thoughts
made visible and the mystery of the word as a vehicle of communication
has led me on a wonderful journey of exploration and discovery.
I love the process of developing a concept to merge message with
technique in watercolor, brush and pen into a finished piece. This
is a process where faith is exercised and joy and Gods grace
are experienced. I create and share my work in the hope of inspiring
all of us to treasure relationships and celebrate life with God
and each other.

Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma WA. She taught

with worship, art and prayer committees.
1980 was a pivotal year. Donald Jackson, calligrapher
to the queen of England, was speaking to the Colleagues of Calligraphy.
Judy attended with a friend and realized others also had a love
of letters, letter forms, words and design (which for her began
as an elementary student). She immediately began studying and opened
Penscriptions studio in 1984. She has studied continued to study
extensively, attend national conventions and teach and serve actively
in her local guild, Colleagues of Calligraphy.
Judys work has been published and exhibited
throughout the United States. Framed work and books are owned by
individuals, businesses, universities and churches.
I have always been fascinated by the power of "thoughts
made visible" and the mystery of the word as a vehicle of communications
across generations.
As a freelance calligrapher and artist, I love
the creative process and the challenge of incorporating a variety
of tools, materials, and techniques to present the written word.
As a Christian, I am thankful for our awesome Godmy
creatorwho entered into our human experience through
Jesus and continues to abide with us and teach us more through eyes
of faith and his Spirit. I use calligraphy to explore the integration
of message, design and faith. I love to work with Scripture as well
as texts of ancient or contemporary writers.
It is with joy that I create and share my work
in the hope of inspiring us to treasure our relationship with God
and each other and to encourage us in affirming and celebrating
our lives and God's presence in our world.
